Mr Tarleton continues: "We now have two young people joining our profession who are eager to learn, accustomed to studying and therefore able to absorb new information quickly."

And when it comes to the costs of recruiting and training from scratch, or using apprenticeship programmes, Mr Tarleton suggests it is a no-brainer. 

"Ninety per cent of their training costs were covered by funding and the long-term value they have brought to our team is apparent now more than ever. I would highly recommend any firm consider the available programmes," he adds.

Where firms can and do take advantage of such programmes, the PFS's Mr Richards says they - and potential clients - will reap the rewards of taking on fresh talent, even during the lockdown. 

He adds: "As the situation stabilises, there is the potential for firms to hire. There is a well-documented advice gap in the UK, and with the introduction of pension freedoms, there is a significant potential for consumers to suffer detriment from do-it-yourself advice."
