Letter to the editor: Why we need serious action about staff training

FT Adviser welcomes letters from readers. This week, Mark Thompson, country lead at training provider GoodHabitz, urges government and business to work together to make the most of training and retaining staff.

He writes:

"Corporate learning in the UK is at a turning point.

"The Apprenticeship Levy has shown us that we need to think differently about how we train our workforce. This has started a big conversation about how we should train workers in the future.

"The government now wants to focus on 'learning and skills for all', not just new apprentices. This means big changes in how companies train their staff.

"We're seeing more demand for training that's easy to access and fits into busy schedules. It can work alongside traditional apprenticeships and help all kinds of employees.

"As things change, we'll likely see new ways of learning that mix formal apprenticeships with shorter, more flexible courses.

"This could really change how companies help their employees grow and learn new skills."
